Lincoln Hosts FHIR Team
Lincoln team members had the privilege of welcoming Dr. May Wang and her team to East Carolina University to discuss collaboration for the development of a FHIR-based application to improve death certificate reporting. The Georgia Tech-based team is developing an app to assist physicians in determining an accurate cause of death progression when certifying death for their patients. The app utilizes FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), an interface designed to facilitate the secure exchange of electronic health records. The project relies on a combination of machine learning and clinical input to produce a reliable model for outputting potential cause of death progressions.
In a series of presentations and meetings, Lincoln team members were introduced to the capabilities of FHIR and the proposed design of the app. The Lincoln Project hopes to provide a clinical element to project design that will be vital to enhancing the app’s machine learning capabilities. Collaboration between the two projects is projected to include testing of the app utilizing Lincoln resources and further discussions regarding clinical input and app design.
